“Sometimes the sun will be
Right at your shoulder
Helping you keep your stride
Sometimes you might have to give up
A piece of your pride
Have you even tried?” – Dan Fogelberg
Something strange has happened here in Portugal. It began with our stay in Porto which consisted of a fantastic couch surf, my 24th birthday, and the start of spring here. Of course, spring is subjective to who is feeling it I suppose. For Isa and me, seeing the sun and walking around in flip flops is a pretty good start.
My birthday was incredibly fun, we walked all around Porto for the day, got some new clothes for ourselves and saw Deadpool at the Cinema. The very next day we got the cheesy hamburger that I wanted so badly. Basically, it was a good birthday.
Oh yeah! Isa also secretly organized with my friends to get them all to send me nudie pics all day. So yeah, once again, a lot of love! hahaha
Our couch surfing host was this great dude named Helder, his CS profile can be found here. Helder showed us all around the city and made sure to celebrate my birthday right. Homemade chocolate cake and a ton of sangria. It was a good evening. He is currently training to be a tour guide for Porto and you can really feel the love he has for his city when he shows you around. If you or anyone you know want to go through Porto, get in touch with him!
After leaving Porto we made our way south to a little village just past Coimbra. We were there to house/horse sit for a few days. Our hosts were an amazing couple of people that took great care of us and made sure we would enjoy caring for their animals while they were gone!
A few days later we rented a car and Isa’s dear friend Florise joined us at the house sit.
We spent the last week getting up early and going to sleep late, laughing at embarrassing stories from Isa’s past and getting to know my partner in a new light. I can see the distance this amazing woman has come from who she was and I appreciate her choice to spend time with me more than I ever have.
Towards the end of the week we made our way down to Nazaré. This is the Nazaré where some of the largest waves in the world are recorded and where Garrett McNamara holds the record for largest wave ever surfed. Watch this shit.
Got some great shots of smaller waves breaking on rocks that you can see below.
All in all, Portugal has been amazing, we cannot wait to come back and we currently have an open invitation to return and spend as long as we want. We made new friends, caught up with old ones, and I found another layer of love for the woman who has been my constant companion for the last year. I really could not ask for more!
Enjoy the photos and love you all!!
